Cheshire is commuter country with a motorway grid laid over it. The M56 runs along the north through Runcorn and Frodsham, and the M6 cuts down the middle past Lymm, Knutsford, Holmes Chapel and Sandbach. Warrington sits where the M6 and M62 cross, Widnes and Runcorn face each other across the Mersey with the Mersey Gateway bridge between them, and the M53 serves Ellesmere Port. Off the motorways the A34 carries Handforth, Wilmslow and Alderley Edge, and the A523 links Poynton to Macclesfield. Crewe is the one that stands out for rail: the station is a West Coast Main Line junction with long-stay parking, and Wilmslow, Alderley Edge and Macclesfield all have busy commuter stations where a car can sit all day before anyone finds the key has stopped working. Retail and business parks pull in traffic from a wide area, and a lost key in a car park is a different job from one at home because there is nothing to fall back on.
